Points of pride in the Village include the annual Heritage Festival, an excellent library, two food establishments (Mamma Mia's Pizza and It Takes a Village Diner), the Prairie River Flower Company, and Ana Rose Photography. Long standing factories include Carter Associates and LeeAnn Plastics, and King Farms also operates out of Burr Oak. Places of worship include the Burr Oak Missionary Church, St. John's Lutheran Church, and the United Methodist Church. There are walking trails near Prairie River across from the school playground, and the old railroad tracks are also used as walking trails.
Two of the nine county parks in St. Joseph County are within five miles of Burr Oak. Plumb Lake has many hiking trails, a playground, picnic pavilions, and a kayak launch. Cade Lake is a campground with a full disc-golf course and also has canoe and kayak rentals. If you want to drive a little farther there is public beach access at Sand Lake and at Meyer Park a 7-mile bike trail.
